This shelf continues where the dystopian shelf leaves off. Most of Scott Westerfeld's work is dystopian-themed. The Uglies series, which I read in middle school, is about a society where people get plastic surgery at 16. And this is something people wait their whole lives for, it's basically the gift you get for turning 16. From there, the shelf starts to dive into the fantasy world. The Rainbow Rowell novels are a mix of romance and fantasy but I felt that they better fit on this shelf (than with the romance bookshelf). I also think the Hush, Hush series would be classified as romance, but I think since it is a series and one of the main focuses is the supernatural, I think that series (and other similar series) belong in the fantasy section.
